Complex matters

We approach sensitive circumstances through an individual review of the facts, documents and legal options.

How we can help

  • Inadmissibility concerns
  • Humanitarian considerations
  • Refugee protection claims

Does this sound like you?

  • You have a background concern or official correspondence raising questions about admissibility or your immigration position.
  • Difficult family or personal circumstances lead you to ask about possible humanitarian and compassionate considerations.
  • You need to discuss refugee protection or how an earlier decision affects the options that may be considered.

What we review in a consultation

  • Cyrus can identify the particular legal issue and examine how the facts, documents and earlier decisions relate to it.
  • The assessment can distinguish inadmissibility concerns, humanitarian applications and refugee protection, which involve different legal frameworks.
  • It can also identify urgent steps, limits on available routes and information requiring more detailed review.

Getting ready for the first step

Have this information to hand. A short summary is enough for your first message; we will explain how to share documents securely.

  • In the first contact, give only the general issue and urgent dates; send sensitive material after receiving secure sharing instructions.
  • Prepare a chronology of events, locations, decisions and official correspondence, marking anything you do not remember with certainty.
  • Identify available documents and communication or language needs; you do not need to describe sensitive experiences in an initial message.

Questions about this service

How is an Argentine criminal case or conviction assessed for Canada?

The Canadian assessment may require examining the facts, decisions and their legal equivalence in Canada. A case label or short description is not enough to determine admissibility. Share the general issue and relevant dates; Cyrus will identify the records needed and how to provide them securely.

Is a humanitarian application the same as a refugee claim?

No. These are different pathways with their own purposes, requirements and restrictions. Assessment starts with the facts and procedural position, rather than treating one as an automatic substitute for the other.

Does a background concern mean there are no options?

A general description is not enough to conclude that. The nature of the concern, dates, records and inadmissibility ground matter when assessing whether any options may be available.

What if a departure or hearing date is scheduled?

Mention that date in your first contact and seek urgent legal assistance. Sending an enquiry does not pause proceedings or deadlines, and a humanitarian application does not automatically suspend removal.

Each pathway has its own requirements and limits; they are not interchangeable.
