Family sponsorship
We assess family sponsorship options and the documentation needed to explain your relationship.
How we can help
- Spouses and partners
- Dependent children
- Other applicable family categories
Does this sound like you?
- You want to live in Canada with your partner or children and assess a possible sponsorship application.
- Your partner or children live in Argentina and you want to organize your relationship history and each family member’s circumstances.
- You have questions about other family categories, missing documents or an application that is already in progress.
What we review in a consultation
- Cyrus can examine the potential sponsor's circumstances, the family relationship and the relevant immigration history.
- The consultation can address evidence of the relationship, responsibilities associated with sponsorship and points needing clarification.
- Where there are separations, children from previous relationships or earlier immigration decisions, it can consider how to explain that history accurately.
Getting ready for the first step
Have this information to hand. A short summary is enough for your first message; we will explain how to share documents securely.
- Note who is in your family and where they live; send personal documents only after receiving secure sharing instructions.
- Prepare a simple chronology of your relationship, periods of living together and significant family events.
- Identify previous applications, permits and correspondence; mention any request for information that has a response date.
Questions about this service
Does an Argentine unión convivencial registration establish common-law status by itself?
Not by itself. IRCC applies its own definition, requiring at least twelve consecutive months of living together as partners and evidence of the relationship. The Argentine registration may form part of that evidence, but actual cohabitation, dates, periods apart and the other requirements need assessment.
Which Argentine family records should I identify before the consultation?
Depending on your circumstances, birth or marriage certificates, divorce judgments and cohabitation records may be relevant. Note where they were issued and any differences in names or dates. We review the application-specific checklist and translation or certification requirements before you order new documents.
Can any relative be sponsored?
No. Family categories have specific requirements, and availability needs checking against the particular circumstances. Being related does not, by itself, establish that a sponsorship pathway is available.
Do we need to be married to enquire?
No. We can discuss your relationship and assess which category may be relevant. Different partner categories involve different facts and evidence; they are not selected simply by preference.
Can we plan a visit while considering sponsorship?
You can discuss both goals. A temporary visit and sponsorship are separate processes, and a residence application does not replace the documents or conditions needed to travel to or remain in Canada.
